It’s been a while…
I’ve been a bit busy trying to write a paper recently (nothing to do with politics or current affairs.) so there are plenty of things I’ve missed that I would have liked to write about. Now that I’ve got a bit more time (hopefully) I’ll take my first post back to say congratulations to ‘The Shore’ on its oscar win last night. It’s good to see Northern Ireland exporting good news.
The other thing is a story where Alliance are calling for the many upcoming centenaries to be inclusive rather than divisive. I think it’s a good thing that this point is being made but also depressing that it has to be made at all. Personally, things that happened a century ago aren’t going to register on my personal radar beyond thinking “oh, X happened a hundred years ago” but other people take these things seriously. If we have to make a big song and dance about this stuff then hopefully Alliance’s message will get through. That means both of the big parties need to take action, instead of just nice words about being inclusive. Unfortunately, I think they’ll talk a good game but fail to deliver. Perhaps some good community level inclusive events can be organised.
Or maybe we should just not bother about celebrating stuff that happened almost beyond living memory.
